"Playing" is cohesive and easy to like, BUT there's a huge gap missing. Instead of a 'He's Gone' call they go into more Bobby.

"Saint" was the predictable next call, and is smoother and is a strong '87 version. As long as they provide Jerry with the requisite amount of space, he'll make anything sound pretty. Finally, a tune with a differing complexion, "Crazy." Man, it's been awhile since they've played this. Pretty 'Fleetwood Mac' flash of chimes welcome a sunny "Box." Our set ends without a ballad in sight with a breezy, in one ear, out the other.Ģnd Set: Let's keep the airy, bright, easy-pleaszy vibe going with "Man Smart." It's decently thought out, but too polite to matter for much. Tis a surprise for me that they entered 'Mexicali' land it's longer than the average '87 version but the jams aren't lasting. "Cumberland" keeps the feet moving, but lacks dimension. Geez, Brent's hoarse voice is just awfully funny at 3:40. "Far" is sloppy and far from great, but I'm on the same channel as the band so they're forgiven. Missin' that Hammond solo half-way through, though. I'm totally digging this "Walkin" compared to the one in Ventura. Mic problems, forgotten lyrics plague a groove-driven "Promised." "West" is quite sweeet as Jerry enters almost a Gilmour-ian state with his solos. "Alabama," that Brent helps emerge from the sludge. IT came in the form of a crazy New Yoker(is there any other kind?) who had some buddies, who had some 'sur-plies' and needed a ride back East.PERFECT!, "Who are these guys?" Oh man, let me tell you! This was a great day, and the beginning of a greater Trip!ġst Set: Immediately appears Mr. That enigma that made one day just a little more. Things were looking grim at about 8 AM Sunday June 21st laying in my bus infront of Willard Park. So the only things I really had going for me going into this Tour was my Bus, my dog, and three tickets to the Alpine shows. My "Tight Bro" up and pulled his end out of our arrangement.Whole 'nother story, my dog bit this girl who was a Good-looking, Good Trip and my Girlfriend wasn't going to make Alpine Valley, but fly to Canada and meet us, well me, there. I was pretty bumbed more about a lot of other things connected to Summer East Tour though. Other than the Watchtower break-out, (which really was UNREAL until it got over played) and the Deal into drums, (which one "journalist" said would be 'a bit much') these shows had short sets. The week before in Ventura was High Gear so I figured these shows would be a little slow and soulful. I gotta agree with the fact that this was the best of the three Greeks.
